Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in America. We realize that many of our patients are at risk and depend on us to help identify and manage it. However, in some cases, cardiovascular disease can have no symptoms. We do know that early detection is key so that prevention tactics can be implemented as soon as possible.
There are a number of routine diagnostics used for detecting cardiovascular disease that you’re probably familiar with. Blood pressure checks and lab work which includes screening for cholesterol levels, blood sugar, insulin, A1C, and inflammation markers all offer clues regarding the condition of your cardiovascular health.
While these types of tests are helpful, it’s sometimes impossible to know when disaster is imminent or when it’s necessary to refer our patients out to a specialist for further evaluation and care since cardiovascular disease can be asymptomatic in some cases.
Diabetes also puts patients at increased risk for heart attack or stroke, and these patients should always be closely monitored for increased signs of cardiovascular disease regardless of whether or not they are symptomatic.
We’re pleased to announce that we are now offering a new, state of the art preventative screening device that can detect arterial hardening and circulation problems.
The Max Pulse has been FDA approved for cardiovascular screening and provides us with a real-time snapshot of the condition of your arteries. It detects stiffness (hardening), potential plaque problems, and is an accurate indicator of whether or not your circulation may be inhibited. The test also gives us insight into how well your autonomic nervous system is functioning as this affects cardiovascular health as well. Best of all, it can help identify potential problems even in patients who are asymptomatic.
This test is non-invasive and only takes three minutes to complete. It just involves putting a clip with a light on your fingertip for three minutes. We get the results back as soon as the test is complete so there’s no added anxiety associated with waiting on results.
We have incorporated this screening tool into routine wellness checks, annual physicals, and any other visits where its use is warranted.
The test is usually covered by insurance and is an inexpensive way to identify and manage risk associated with cardiovascular disease.
We are looking forward to testing you and putting you on the road to a healthier cardiovascular system and a longer and more fulfilling life!
